Most of us have unfortunately felt unpleasant Shin Spilts come on when are have done exercises such as running as it is an overuse injury causing discomfort across the shin. Various stress reactions of the tibia and surrounding musculature occur when the body is unable to heal properly in response to repetitive muscle contractions and tibial strain.

Things you can do to help beforeadvancedphysiotherapy
- Take paracetemol or ibuprofen to ease the pain if it’s safe for you to do so.
- Put an ice pack on the affected area in a towel for up to 20 minutes every 2 -3 hours
- Switch to gentle exercise such as yoga or swimming
- Exercise on soft ground, if you can, when you’re feeling better
- Warm up before exercise and stretch after exercise
Preventative measures
- Make sure your trainers or shoes support your feet properly
- Choose shock absorbing insoles
- Avoid overdoing exercise
- Strength and conditioning exercises on your legs, ankles, hips and core can help prepare your legs for extreme, high impact sports
